The days of thinking life (and career) for women ends by age 50 are diminishing. As Mika Brzezinski, founder of the initiative Know Your Value and co-host of “Morning Joe” shares in Forbes in the article Women Over 50 Are Having a Moment, there is a contingent of women in their 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s who are crushing it in their respective fields.
The “age trap”, as Brzenzinski puts it, in which a women’s worth is strongly tied to her looks and appearance, is a notion she found herself blindly believing in, but, now 54, she’s since come to understand that life isn’t over as you move past your 40s. By simply pushing on with her work, Brzezinski has found her career has improved, and with greater clarity, she’s able to see she is not alone in this, with numerous women aged 50 and beyond thriving at this stage of their career. Which is why Brzenzinski has partnered with the magazine on the Forbes and Know Your Value 50 Over 50 list, the “most impactful project” she’s ever undertaken. The list will include 50 diverse women who’ve achieved success later in life and their stories will be published in the special digital edition of Forbes “Inclusive Capitalism” due out in June 2021. With year after year of 30 Under 30 and 40 under 40 lists in every publication, it’s about time those who broke barriers and beat some phenomenal odds later in life got the limelight.
